I have a soft spot for utterly broken, horribly imbalanced combat systems, and Cardpocalypse certainly delivers on that. I beat the penultimate boss on turn three on the harder difficulty setting, and I'm not sure how optimized my deck was. It's not so much that certain options are overwhelming as the average power level of the available options is astronomical. In a multiplayer format I don't think it would be even slightly competitive because high rolls are disgustingly strong and the few defensive options available aren't very good. But it's great for solo players who just want to see how far the system will bend before it breaks.
I also appreciated the writing, which is consistently charming and funny. It's a nostalgic throwback, but it's a lively one that has more of an identity than the recent Stanger Things clones. The art style is certainly unique, and on the whole I enjoyed my time with this one. The design is awkward in just the right ways.
