With Doom 2016 now playable on the Nintendo Switch, Killzone: Mercenary feels like a subpar experience but I feel that that is an unfair comparison given that this game came out in 2013 on significantly less hardware and with much more limited controls (no clicking analog sticks or dual shoulder buttons).
This game is slow, meticulous and still a lot of fun with some ingenious adjustments to work around the limits of the controls. I'm slowing moving my way through the campaign and having small bursts of gameplay with the multiplayer against bots which is a lot of fun. I've always loved stats in video games and so being able to destroy bots and then see my records is an absolutely awesome feature.
For its time, I imagine this game was absolutely mind-blowing.
