This is a mashup I never expected, but works immediately well. Having a blast. If you like rhythm or action games, you'll probably like this.

Not super far into it yet, but this game is such a delight so far. Great sense of humor. Smidge is a front runner for favorite NPC of 2023.

Not into this one sadly. The art style, writing, music, rhythm combat and level design all not really doing it for me in the first hour. That’s quite a bit stacked against it so don’t think I’d care to keep pushing along. Just not really to my tastes but I can give props for leaning into a specific style and …

Just not really to my tastes but I can give props for leaning into a specific style and unique blend of gameplay types. I get how it could be working well for many people.

Sadly not for me. I appreciate that more studios are experimenting with combat rhythm games but none feel as good to play as Crypt of the Necromancer to me. Sadly not for me. I appreciate that more studios are experimenting with combat rhythm games but none feel as good to play as Crypt of the Necromancer to me. I’ve been hunting for a game to play and after dropping CP2077 I picked up and immediately dropped Devil May Cry V. Then I picked up Hi-Fi Rush and realized it’s a DmC style brawler married with a rhythm game and accept that there’s no way either of those elements are going to captivate me. Slapping music on top of combat that requires you to pull off S-rank combos just isn’t the gaming sweet spot I enjoy. There are some games that I think give the player awesome tools that make ranked combo based combat a fun idea, but this one doesn’t manage to make it into that category for me. Also none of the music is particularly captivating off the bat, certainly nothing riveting and ear worm worthy like the Crypt of the Necrodancer soundtrack. Oh well, I’m sure it’s great for those who are into it but I’m going to pass this one over.

I can't stop thinking about this goddamn game. I don't want to stop playing it even after beating it. It cleaned off the dirty taste that is GoW 2018. I have never adored an action game this much since ULTRAKILL. That is extremely high praise when compared to one of my top 3 games.

Finished the game today on Hard. Easy GOTY contender in my book. Such a harmonious cohesive piece of a game. If you're into rhythm games, play Hi-Fi Rush. If you're into getting into the rhythmic nature of character action games, play Hi-Fi Rush. Absolutely loved this game once I really got the hang of it. I'll be honest. …

If you're into getting into the rhythmic nature of character action games, play Hi-Fi Rush. Absolutely loved this game once I really got the hang of it. I'll be honest. It's my favorite rhythm game since Gitaroo Man, my favorite rhythm game of all time. Honestly, it's the most soulful game I have played since said rhythm game. Favorite game I have played this year thus far.

Introducing fire enemies was a bad idea they just make combat frustrating even when you have Korsica, breaks the flow of combat when you have to break your character free of the flames by mashing the analogue stick, which in my opinion is never a fun thing to have to do in an action game.

I thought the Korsica boss fight was going to go on forever and just when I thought it was finished a quick time came up to catch Korsica but I had already put my controller down.

So far 5 minutes into this game:

  • ✅ Sick art style
  • ✅ The Black Keys
  • ✅ Robbie Daymond
  • ✅ On Game Pass

I think it's super hard to see a world where this isn't on my top 5 for the year. Shadow drops rule.

It's funny how a game like Ghostwire Tokyo had build up and trailers doesn't get anywhere near as much fanfare as the game that shadowdropped.

Already getting a good impression out of Hi-Fi Rush. This game is such a visual treat. Not only do I really like the comic book art style, but the environments, cutscenes, your footsteps, everything syncs up with the music. I guess I could ask for some comic book like paneling as I don't see any of it so far. I don't have much to say about the combat, but I REALLY like it. I think I want the game to do something like Devil May Cry 5 with its dynamic music where the better you play, the more layers of instrumentation play. I don't feel as much of highs as I do with Metal: Hellsinger where the highest rank had vocals kick in. Idunno. The crowd cheering for Chai doesn't hit as hard and I'm not as fond of the music. The downtime incorporates rhythm and I think it has a lot more going for it as a rhythm action game more than any other that I have played. I guess my main gripe is how long levels are. The first level took me 50 minutes and the 2nd took me 35. The first level had like 8 combat encounters. Also Akechi + Futaba banter lol. Robbie Daymond and Erica Lindbeck play the 2 main characters. Really cool game.
