enter image description here Absolutely amazing game! This was my favorite Christmas game purchase, and I spent a lot more time on it than on other AAA games.

MT1 is already a classic roguelike deckbuilder. MT2 was a pleasant surprise - it contains more than twice the content of the first game, the clans from it, more game modes, new mechanics, and more combinations.

This is good, but also I very quickly got a sort of “been there done that” feeling even though I haven’t played the first game in a while. That happens often for me with this kind of iterative sequel though, so I wouldn’t consider it a red flag if you are someone who was super into the first one. I really enjoyed the first one but am not sure how much I need to play more of this formula, particularly since I don’t tend to play a lot of deck builders (or roguelikes) anyway and probably need something more distinctive and fresh like we got with Balatro to want to really dive back into the genre. If you never played the first game, I recommend checking this out since personally I do prefer Monster Train over most other games like it that I’ve tried.
