Well, well, what do we have here Giga?
This game is basically a less-good version of Dave the Diver (albeit, with some major differences and quirks.) Many mechanics, stylizations and aesthetic principles are shamelessly copied/emulated. And others are new and introduced (some good some not) The game plays NOTHING like Terrarria but yes, it does looks similar (or so I thought) at a glance. The main differences between this and DtD:

Look familiar?
-it's far less complex there isn't oodles of this and that to do in NDfF, its focused on the fishing aminigame nd resource gathering/farming/grinding, and some exploration of the map. (Oh, and there's gear and levelling) That's about all you get.
-The fishing minigame is very different and is a hybrid action/beat-matching game where you alternate between "Q" & "S" keys (attack and defense) and eight 'spell' slots (the four arrow keys, plus SHIFT) in a real turn action-RPG type thingie that blends a lot of genres together in a pretty interesting and challenging way. It's one part SMRPG (in that you get bonuses if you time your attacks and key presses right), one part DDR (the controsl are similiar even if this is not rhymth …

It's one part SMRPG (in that you get bonuses if you time your attacks and key presses right), one part DDR (the controsl are similiar even if this is not rhymth matching) and one part MOBA of your choice (due to the cool downs.) It's also none of those things and stands as a rather novel idea i haven't seen anything quite like before! So, I actually thought it was really cool and well implemented and made it worth playing but BOY, DOES IT GET REPETITIVE by the end of the game.. However, as far as action/arcade style fishing minigames go, it's quite good. Probably the best I've ever seen. (Well done!)
-You level up and there are more RPG elements (I should say RPG-lite)
-The writing is deliberately atrociously awful to the point of it being absurd and full of filler. That's the in-joke of the games title as you play the role of a generic RPG character who simply repeats the same lines.
-Voice acting varies considerably, instead of doing what they did for dave the diver, ever character has 2-3 lines that they repeat over and over. (You'll either find it amusing/funny and appreciate this gimmick or hate the hell out of it and think it's a banal pile of crap) I personally thought it was great! Love this voice actings (its he best since Dragon Slayer Legend of Heroes)

I do love me a Joke-RPG like this once in a while and it hit the right buttons in my book
Essentially the game consists of you, the hero idiot character, helping out a town, doing this fetch quest and that (oh they came up with the funniest take on fetchquests ever with that blacksmith and his hammer...) you grind and make slow incremental progress, upgrading your gear, your character, and the town shops, unlocking new areas, etc. There are just a few areas, and just like DtD, different fish exist at different depths, and they are harder the deeper you go.
This game, despite having fish in some deep areas, is not deep itself at all, in any sense
Occasional bosses exist, and the battles are fairly easy (i never lost and i am unsure of what happens when you do, losing a fight with fish you just lose what's on your hook with no further penalty) and I found them pretty good (but they aren't really imaginative or require you to defeat bosses using special or different techniques or anything)
Recommended strategy: Keep your starting ring for a long time until you get the hang of how combat works in this game. don't buy lots of gear at first (it seems almost all of it is simply trade-offs and not really stat improvements so start small and feel out what spells you like.
There is a lot of gear in this game you don't want and won't need. If you buy everything you're going to be farming a long time and it's unnecessarily long as it is
Typically, I found it better to farm the same fish over and over again that nets good cash/XP. clams were a good early game option, i forget what i went for after that, and slimy snails are pretty good towards the end as you reach the bottom areas. In the final area, I preferred mimics over anything else.

This fish is the best IMO. so easy to catch and the skills i mention just tear through them
Feel and quality of the game reminded me of Pixel Pirates from about ten years ago, but the basic 'idea' of this game is kind of a sarcastic take on shoddy RPGs and reminded me of the tone of Evoland.
SHOULD YOU PLAY THIS?
Do you want more DtD type adventure (even if that adventure is less-good but better-than-bad?
Do you LOVE FISHING MINIGAMES? Want one that tries to turn it into a weird beatmatch RPG thing??? (it's quite different!)
Do you love the idea of a soundtrack full of retro-sounding medieval marimba seapunk or 8-bit sea shanties?
Do you like being the village idiot/hero with a whopping 3 lines of dialogue in response to every fetchquest you're sent on for a good 12+ hours and do.... (Well, whatever you're told?)
If you answered yes to any of those, I would recommend!
IF you answer any of those with a HARD NOPE, then this probably isn't for you.
I enjoyed this humorous and silly adventure/ARPG that doesn't take itself too seriously. combined, I feel like it's positive parts outweigh its negatives and it's appropriation from a more popular game. A four-star catch if you ask me! (I'm being reel with you)
the mechanics are tight and don't flounder, the game tackles aging game genres in a smart and humorous manner and scales as you angle yourself towards the endgame. Try it out for an hour and you'll either find yourself reeling from the trolling, or you'll be hooked!
