Beat on Normal. This game ran terribly on my PSP emulator. The screen would flicker any time there was more than 1 enemy on screen and in boss fights, making the game painful to my eyes. Even worse I literally could not see the predator with that flickering and cloak going at the same time. I could not figure out how to use the laser and managed to scrape through the first few levels with tedious punching, grabs and slide kicks. I made use of all the spears and throwing discs that I could. The first boss was a ridiculous affair of slide kicking back and forth. The second boss was even more ridiculous as I could not figure out any sensible way to fight other than to just take the hits and lose lives until he died. The third boss fight against chestbursters was pretty terrible. I kept trying to kill them with slide kicks but the health bar only went down when they escaped, so I ended up having to jump over them. The walkthrough said to kill them though. The fourth flying boss was the worst part of the game because of having to use precisely timed jump kicks. The boss was way too fast and the controls way too sluggish. I did some extreme savestate scumming in order to beat that.
The next time I played I watched the demo that plays when you leave the title screen running and seen the laser in use. Ohhh, the button has to be held down for the laser to charge up. I finished the rest of the game with the laser and it was ridiculously easy. Just camp on one side of the screen and shoot over and over. The final boss was annoying because the screen would periodically go black and I could not see anything. Managed to beat the queen with a mix of laser shots and slide kicks. Then I played through the first level on Expert using the laser and it was very easy.
I read the reviews on GameFAQs and they all seem to have missed the laser entirely. The game is fairly boring and tedious but not as bad as those reviews.

A lot of my giving it a high review is based on nostalgia.
It's not the best beat 'em up, as it gets monotonous, but the graphics are pretty damn great, and its real star is the awesome soundtrack.
