Worth a Fortune

enter image description here

SoF has a great atmosphere and feel to it. I remember getting my hands on it and playing for the first time, turning the volume down and looking over my shoulder constantly. You see, it was highly controversial when it came out, with graphic graphics and gore, where you can shoot off pretty much every limb of your victims, as they scream in pain on the floor around you.

It’s very cinematic with fast paced action and tongue-in-cheek dialogue, but also has story driven moments with actual characters and voice acting. The campaign lets you blast your way through the subways & sewers of New York, icy military fortresses in Siberia and dusty marketplaces in Iraq. This is just a great shooter from an era of many great shooters. Pick it up!

STEALTH IS OPTIONAL
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

I have never seen a game try to showcase itself on the merits of it's strategic options in the tutorial only to become a fast-paced game in which the aspect of stealth is almost NEVER used, what you get is a Goldeneye 007 like game made with the Quake 2 engine, complete with specific limb reactions and enemies dodge rolling into combat, and considering the engine you can go about things in an even more fast manner such as just you know strafe hopping.

I guess a way to explain it is that if Goldeneye 007 and Half-Life, both games from 1998, inspired heavily this one, as it has some Half-Life platforming every now and then. And they sprinkled a lil Wolfenstein and call of duty on it tone-wise because you're really just going over the world against a random assortment of terrorists of the far-right variety.

The one thing people seem to remember about this game is the dismemberment system, which is pretty cool and leads to some fun moments, I still like to think it first and foremost as the game you recommend to Goldeneye 007 fans as an addition, because as a clone of that game it's …

Sometimes things can come off as cheap, and the idea to have you carry guns you have 0 ammo for is stupid because when you grab ammo, it comes in the form of a whole weapon, and when you reach 0 for ammo you could just drop the gun entirely because you can just grab it- bottomline they just make it an extra action to manage how many guns you carry and you need to always be dropping the ones that run out of ammo, but it is a genuinely fun FPS game if you haven't had many, and it's aged pretty well in comparison to others, just a very silly act to be able to run it on Windows 10 though, you need to create a copy for the exe file, doesn't matter what you name it, then create a shortcut for that copied exe file, put in Target: +set console 1 and that somehow makes the game work.

I had fond memories of it, but it turns out that back in the days I was playing with cheats, and nowadays the game is quite bad. You have some quite horrible level design, like finding 4 minuscule valves, or being unable to finish the mission because you disarmed someone and not killed him. Enemies are able to snipe you while out of sight, hidden by Q2 engine "fog". Weapons are weird, like having a heavy machine gun that for some reason has a grenade launcher attached to it, and only 40 bullets in a belt.
