Look: 7/10
Functional, not my favorite of the Atari colors except some of the later cities. Decent sprites, but nothing special. My favorite of the city color schemes
Sound: 6/10 I like the continuous car crunch noise, but most the other sound is annoying.
Play: 8/10 This was a lot of fun!! As always the manual helps, tho it was quite intuitive: collect the cash, set little bomb type things behind you as the pigs chase you (turns out it's dynamite), and avoid the cops! Honestly, the most critical part of the manual is where it explains that the upper-right exit isn't a wraparound, but rather moves you on to the next city. I always like when there are difficulty toggles, and Atari was always good about this. The main settings are whether banks are randomized or set, and whether the cops have actual AI or just set movement. Awesome that you can control those features tbh. Nice variety of mazes/screens, too--at first I thought it was just the one maze cuz I was having enough fun there :-p It was also fun getting to know when to time the dynamites, and I felt pretty good at that! The only gameplay complaint I can really make is that it's screen-based instead of open-world like Getaway!, and that it has the Pac-man controls issue where sometimes the wall collisions/turn-timing is clunky.
Feel: 9/10 Really impressed by the gameplay and its options you can tweak. I guess I'm a sucker for these early attempts at car-centric crime games heh, leading up to GTA :-p Now, this isn't quite a Getaway!, which was simply phenomenal, but this was still great. Even tho this really probly deserves an 8, I boosted it to a 9 because a) I want to remember it and b) the feel of future favorite games like Driver and GTA is here--even if very rudimentary. I mean you're legit blowing up cops in this.... that's pretty intense lol. Maybe on future replays this will go down, but for now I don't want it to be lost in the sea of 3-star games. If only the look was a little stronger to solidify the 4 star rating!
Attachment: 8/10 Proud to have gotten almost 4000 dollars--felt pretty strong about that! Kinda disappointing when I realized the city layouts/mazes were starting to repeat, but still was fun for a good while! Longer than most Atari action games tbh. This one stands out amid the sea of early 80s Atari action games! Definitely give this and Getaway! a try if you like car or crime games.
