Your task is to capture your nemesis, the psychopathic Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes), who has freed himself from prison and is wreaking havoc around town. The 3DO version adopts a unique multimedia approach to the concept of a movie tie-in. Cutscenes and clips from the film are used when appropriate, but Stallone and actual props from the film (such as his uniform) were also brought in to shoot bluescreen clips specifically for the game. The title is strictly in FMV levels of good and bad, haha. I have mixed feelings about this but this is arguably one of the better FMV games i've yet to see, one of the best 'disc' generation of console games as well. You have shooting sequences, car chases, a shitty 'doom clone' and a lot of cool animated funky CGI 'loading screen' animations that play between levels, you also have stop motion comics (just like watchmen), goofy grainy videos of replays of certain scenes from the movie on a cathode TV, and some original video sequences as well. Stylistically, it reminded me a lot of Revolution X. The shooting sequences have a lot of 'secret stuff' you can interactively shoot at that do things like unlike power ups, or trigger the scene to end. It's pretty multidimensional for an FMV game, and pretty creative for a shooting game.... And its got a great techno/rock score from the era, made in part by legendary Tommy Tallarico... Unfortunately, its not a light gun game. (if it was, i think i'd give it a fourth star)
