HUGE shoutout to Steam user Senzo who posted this in the store page comments for Alice: Madness Returns -
go to the game folder->go to AliceGame-> go to config folder -> open Defaultengine.ini as a text-> change the MaxSmoothedFrameRate=31 to 60 Now you have Alice on 60FPS, enjoy.

Absolute champion. Playing this 9 year old game on a new PC at 30fps was miserable, you've made it actually enjoyable.

Yeah... this game isn't as good as the first one. The first title was conceptually relevant from one level to the next, had a good source for the levels (the books), and everything from the enemies to the music to the weapons all worked together to fit perfectly into the package that is American McGee's Alice. This game, on …

This game, on the other hand, looks pretty and has some sorely needed quality of life features (locking on, no insta-death falling down an abyss, etc.) but the game has no thematic direction. I'm underwater for one level and in another I'm fighting samurai wasps. It just doesn't have a coherent theme spanning from one level to the next. It isn't as immersive or interesting as the last title. I'm, unfortunately, once again playing a game to beat it since I started it already. The only difference is that I did it for the first game because I hated it, and for this game because it just gets boring.

I can tell already that the level design, story themes, the story itself, and other components of video games are weaker than Alice's. While this game finally gives you checkpoints (at the cost of save states the original has), you can lock on to enemies, block attacks, and you have new abilities. There are even collectibles to get in every level now. But the story isn't as interesting with its locations not being based on anything in the books (as far as I'm aware) and the ending to the first game just doesn't warrant a sequel. It was perfect (as a story) in itself, and this game isn't needed. That said, I'm having much more fun with this game than I ever did with the original, so there's that.

I'm not sure what got into me, but a few days ago I got a sudden urge to finally play this game, so I bought it on Steam. One day after we got the news that American McGee stopped trying to make its sequel a reality.

A marvelous adventure and an overlooked gem that has aged like fine wine over the decade. The world is picturesque and the uncanny yet befitting dialogue of the characters does the story of Alice in Wonderland justice. It is truly a majestic experience you will not find in any other game that is rooted in reality.

Again, like American McGee's Alice, I enjoyed the themes and setting of this game. The controls worked much better for me this time around than they did with Alice (only because the aging didn't work for me so well). I played only through the first level or two (I remember the locale being very mechanical / steam punk) and thinking wow this game takes a really long time to burn through. The levels felt massive to me and not necessary never ending, but I remember being impressed with the length. I really want to sit down and play through this sometime in the near future, if for nothing else, to complete the story.

Fantastic game for the most part. The combat mechanics are awesome and the art style was unique and fun. The lock on and camera controls could get you into trouble sometimes.
