This is one of those "build a deck as you play" games. You build a "bank" deck of a dozen cards. You start the game with a "draw" deck with cards that are worth 1 gold each. Every turn you draw 3 cards, play any gold cards and use the gold gained from that to buy one of four randomly selected cards from the "bank deck". When a "bank" card is used up it is shuffled into your "draw" deck.

War of Omens is a pretty fun and interesting game. The four factions all play differently and the various heroes in those factions add further variation. Games are often fast-paced but unfortunately especially on higher difficulties they can really draw out. Sometimes i would concede because winning would take too much time. It doesn't help that there are a handful of seriously unbalanced cards that reset the board like Wrath of God or Balance in Magic: The Gathering. There are also a number of chance-based cards that are just frustrating to play against. And because played cards are usually recycled they just keep coming back.

There isn't a lot of content, there seem to be about 50 cards per faction. …

Because it is hard to unlock rarer cards you're stuck using the same old cards for hours and hours. The game has a solo campaign that is only half-finished and poorly implemented. Each stage has 3 battles and you have to win them all in one go with the same deck. Worse still is that you get punished for playing the campaign. WoO generates 3 quests every day and one of them is to play the next campaign mission. It gives 2-3 times the reward of other quests so you really want to wait for it.

The worst part of WoO is the unlock system. Each card starts out at level 1 and can upgrade to level 3. Both upgrades reduce the gold cost by one. To upgrade it to level 2 you need additional 4 copies of that card. The third level requires 20 more copies (25 in total). This wouldn't be that bad except packs give you only a single card. Every time you buy a pack you have to sit through an animation. Than you get three cards to choose from. You can't buy in bulk so this process takes forever. And you can only buy the lowest tier of packs until you level all 36 Common cards to level 3, which takes hundreds and hundreds of packs.

Don't bother.
