Booted this up for the first time yesterday on PC. Forgot it was a free game on the epic store many months ago!
I'm sad that it's taken me this long to discover the rising storm / red orchestra franchise, Vietnam is a great game and still active today.

I'm sad that it's taken me this long to discover the rising storm / red orchestra franchise, Vietnam is a great game and still active today.
Love the mechanics, the balance between realism and all out action. It's a perfect mix of the more simulation heavy titles like hell let loose, squad, and the casual action focused shooters like battlefield, medal of honor.
There's a heavy emphasis on squads, team play, Commanders, and classes which is great. Uniquely though there is a lot of opportunity for chaos amongst the strategy. Enemy traps, tunnels, napalm strikes, artillery, helicopters, RPGs, smoke.
As with all good war games I feel that rising storm 2 treats the subject matter with a certain level of respect (well about as much respect as you can with a game about war) mainly in the form of its realistic tone and mechanics. Uniform customisation seems to be historically accurate too which is nice.
Love the menu music too, nothing paints a better picture of the stylised Vietnam War than a Creedence Clear Water Revival song!
