Empire Earth is a 2001 Real Time Strategy game rendered in 3D, with colourful graphics and lots of personality. Clearly inspired by Age of Empires and Civilization it doesn't break any new ground, but what it does it does well. Custom play is where it’s at. While your enemy is harvesting corn with donkeys you can roll up in your heavily armed vehicles and airships and blast them back past the stone age. It’s pretty ridiculous and awesome. Servers obviously shut down years ago but the campaign, or epochs, offers a lot of variety, even if a lot more linear. Covering 500,000 years it’s like a historical sand box, leaving massive room for options and replayability. This is a classic!

This game is a low quality buggy rip off of Age of Empires. Just play the real thing rather than wasting time with its cheaply made copy.
I have had my share of gaming this through the learning and part of greek campaign but that's just about the amount of enjoyment I could get out of before watching the rest on Youtube. The game's UI design and graphics haven't aged well to maintain the immersion of a strategy game, but I suppose it stood fairly for what could be put together right after Age of Empires II came out and new strides in technology were to try out. With that said, the background in the campaign are still engaging for a history geek like me, so the backlog will keep it around so I can watch the evolution going.
