Sometimes, you think you've seen it all. Played all the masterpieces in a genre. No more good adventure games left to play. Then, one day, you discover one that outshines everything you've played before. I stumbled onto one of this game's music tracks on YouTube in late 2014, recognised Ryu Umemoto's genius behind it, researched more of the game online, and the rest is history.

It features:

* A unique time travel mechanism that tests your resource management abilities to the limit. This game is not for casuals!

* An epic storyline spanning over 50 hours of gameplay, one of the best ever told in a video game. The final route is an almost transcendental experience.

* A very solid point and click interface that comes with an extremely useful in-game map of the timeline. The game is presented as first-person 2D slideshows, so you don't have to endure any clunky walking control schemes.

* An amazing 5-hour soundtrack composed mainly by Ryu Umemoto (1974-2011), who was a math prodigy and took advantage of that in his compositions.

* A 1,3 million-word script acted by an all-star cast. The characters are colourful and well-written (if often conforming to familiar anime archetypes).

The labyrinthine timeline which you have to navigate.

The game does have a few cons however:

* It's an H-game, which already makes it a barrier for many. Most of the H-content is annoying but ignorable, but levels of tolerance vary and some of the H-scenes near the end are poorly integrated to the story, coming off as clumsy pandering.

* The final route can at first feel overly disconnected from the rest of the story (although it does ultimately answer most of the mysteries introduced earlier) and …

* The final route can at first feel overly disconnected from the rest of the story (although it does ultimately answer most of the mysteries introduced earlier) and becomes increasingly rushed towards the end. Combined with the above con, this can make the final route an incredible anticlimax instead if you focus on the flaws or are impatient instead of becoming emotionally invested.

* Several very annoying pixel hunt scenes that pad out the gameplay. They can be made more tolerable by holding Control, which skips text.

The characters would sometimes have a serious discussion but have the mood ruined by random bits of fanservice - and this is a mild example!

In conclusion, this is one of the best graphic adventure games ever made and one you shouldn't miss despite some unfortunate flaws.
