Interessante. Voto: 7.8/10

craig.morrow.90's review of Arc Rise Fantasia

It's a JRPG for the Wii - but it isn't as bad as all that.

If you turn off the absolutely terrible voice acting in the settings, you quickly find a pretty decent game to be had. The visuals are beautifully cel-shaded in a 'tales of' style that really draws you in.

It's turn based with an interesting battle system that tries something different and just barely manages it. You have the option to strategically move around the battle field to gain an advantage. You use AP to attack with, which refills each turn. This limits your moves as moving, defending, magic and attacking all use the same pool of AP. Being too reckless with your AP will quickly see the tables turned on you, leaving yourself open. The weapon system is also interesting. Use a weapon enough and it unlocks powerful abilities like extra attack power, elemental powers and such. Even better is ability to remove these abilities as blocks/stones and put them into a more powerful weapon. There is a limit to this though, as you have a small grid for each weapon, some already populated as you buy them. Magic grows over time, with player customisable powers. …

There is a limit to this though, as you have a small grid for each weapon, some already populated as you buy them. Magic grows over time, with player customisable powers. Your main character starts as a fire type, but you can find elemental gems over the world that you can place into your characters slots - if you have the room.

The story is like a lot of JRPGs - dull and uninspired. You find that your main character is basically the savior of the world and your female companion is vital to this. The gameplay is important though, and you'll find that you're preoccupied with many quests and side-quests. There is a guild, which is mostly kill and fetch quests, rewarding you with gold and items. You can also receive side quests from villagers and other NPCs. Doing these will unlock some of the best upgrades in the game, so it'd be punishing to skip out on doing them.

Final Thoughts? It's a great addition to the Wii, a console with very few RPGs. It isn't a great or memorable RPG, but it's worth a playthrough.
