Early access title, but filled with so much love and care (Review tentative to change with updates)
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

This game is the first game outside of the Ori series for Moon Studios, and by god do they have the sauce. I am a thorough lover of the Ori series, so when I saw they were making this new game in an entirely different style, I was a little skeptical, to say the least.

This game dropped back in 2025, being the earliest version of the early access title, and I had let it drift by the wayside. Luckily for me, they decided to implement a free weekend event where you could install and play for free with the addition of the co-op update.

Genuinely, I cannot express how impressed I am with this game. I've been glazing this game to my friends and really pushing for everyone to get it because it just feels like it has that magic. Perhaps a little reminiscent of Baldur's Gate, the intro to the game grabbed me so quickly, and the story and set pieces do not disappoint me, no matter how far I progress. I haven't even gotten that far in the story, as I've started 3 different worlds so far, one to play with another friend, one to play solo, …

I haven't even gotten that far in the story, as I've started 3 different worlds so far, one to play with another friend, one to play solo, and another realm for a few different friends.

The art style is so stylized and interesting that at first I was a little concerned they wouldn't be able to maintain the style or it would look weird in-game, but I can thankfully say that isn't the case at all. This game, despite being a top-down game in the style of Diablo, is gorgeous, with incredible scenery, designs, and incredible cutscene animations that make the world and it's inhavbitants feel more alive. Incredibly done, and any time a cutscene plays, I am enamored with the movements of the characters, and even the lip-syncing looks fantastic.

Obviously, this is a game, so the gameplay is an integral part of the experience, and I can safely report again that I love the gameplay loop. Admittedly, it is a little simpler and slower than the more typical top-down arpgs, like Diablo and POE, being more in the vein of Dark Souls than actually playing like either of those. This means that each encounter, regardless of enemy type, can be a lethal one (I know that not everyone may enjoy this, but I surely do). There are many weapon types and build paths, but typically, combat is the same rotation of weaving in with attacks using your stamina and running away to let it recharge, with some spells/skills and parries along the way to keep it flowing.

In addition to that, there is a lot of resource gathering, and typically, I'd say that I'm not one who goes too heavily into the resource gathering portions of games; however, this one feels like an incredible break from the core loop and keeps me refreshed and enjoying the cycles of the game. The mining, digging, chopping, and fishing are all essentially the same minigame, but I do enjoy that it gives you tangible rewards and also keeps you in the fight longer for doing them.

All in all, the game is definitely not perfect, and I have not progressed through the story enough to truly support it in this review in a meaningful way. From what I have seen, however, I am very much interested in it, and it has hooked me easily.

Great stuff from Moon Studios, and I hope this game finds the success that I feel it deserves.
