Fifteen years after the events of Suikoden II, the stories of Hugo (the son of a village chief), Chris (the virtuous Knight of Zexen), and Geddoe (the rebellious unit commander) intertwine as they gather the 108 Stars of Destiny. Suikoden III features three different battle systems and three styles of combat in a 3D world. Customize each of your three character's skills, and then pair them together to unleash devastating combo attacks.

Oof

About as mundane of an RPG as there is. The idea of playing from multiple perspectives sounds good on paper, but it amounts to replaying the same handful of zones literally dozens of times. The combat is hindered by only being able to issue one order per pair of characters. The story is utter nonsense and the villains are just villains because they're bored or something? I really wanted to like this game after enjoying 1 and 2, but it's a huge drop in quality. The castle building and character recruitment are still the most enjoyable part.

I wanted to like this more, as I enjoyed 1 and 2 quite a bit. There were a lot of good concepts, such as switching between character perspectives, but the execution was poor resulting in revisiting the same bland areas repeatedly. The battle system allowed only 1 command per pair of characters and did not allow for strategic placement on the battlefield to avoid aoe attacks. The large scale battle scenarios also felt completely lifeless.

The story isn't as deep as the previous entries, although there were quite a few unintentionally funny moments. The final battle was horrendously unbalanced compared to the rest of the game. I would only recommend if you are a die hard Suikoden fan. Hopefully they choose to do a remake at some point, because it is needed here.

This is a pretty clunky game with a weird combat system, but I love the idea of switching between characters before they all come together. I really only recommend this if you're a big Suikoden fan.
