The possibility to use music tracks to define the levels of gameplay opens for a wide range of interactive music experience. Beat Hazard managed to apply that to Asteroid-like game mechanics and threw in (literally) flashy visuals and a variety of enemies + unlockable customizations. It was fun for a good while until the novelty aged into a predictable shell with too little reason to come back.

As the game's sequel was announced and I followed the teaser materials, I knew that this was merely an expansion on the old formula with not much drastic additions to boot. Still, I played it for a dozen tracks and I commend the dev Starg for throwing in new fighter ship variations along with different challenge missions to incentivize players to make full use of each.

In the end, though, it all felt the same and I can only recommend for players who tirelessly enjoy this kind of arcade gameplay based on music. Those who already own the first game, may only see little necessity to expand into Beat Hazard 2. As for those new to this unique franchise, Beat Hazard 2 may still be a good product to start out with instead to keep themselves to up-to-date.
