jay.dino's review of Emily the Strange: Strangerous

Platform:

DS version.

Graphics/Sound:

It's all about that hipster gothic girl Emily strange. The colors used are mainly black, white and red like in the artworks, I guess. The music is eerie and makes the game feel even more strange.

Gameplay:

The basic gameplay is the same as Professor Layton, therefore it has been dubbed "Layton's sister" more than once. You mostly go from one puzzle to the next. but in this game there is also some puzzles going on outside the actual puzzles, for example it takes some elements from hidden object games, where you have to walk around your room and locate a certain item to progress.

Difficulty:

It felt a bit easier than the first Layton game, but not much, there is also some challenging puzzles. But it's exactly as laid back to play this, no time pressure or anything that would need dexterity.

Conclusion:

It's a nice game for puzzle lovers with a unique art direction. I don't think the overall quality quite reaches the Layton games, and some of the puzzles were outright copied, but it's still a decent game.
