This game should hit hard with me but for some reason it is not. I love side-scroller beat-em ups and the rogue-like upgrades are a neat twist. But having played a lot of Hades 2 recently I think I it is too much of the same game type in a short time.

Absolum is a game I’ve wanted to play since I was a kid. We get simple, approachable brawling battles, high production values in art and music, and a richly imagined fantasy world, all wrapped around a narrative that makes replay and progression worth coming back to advance again and again. It’s not a game that is going to change anyone’s opinions about the genre, but it is a brilliant implementation of a very old formula into something that feels modern, deeply replayable, and unmistakably fun.

Grew on me to become one of my favorites of the year. I want more beat em up roguelikes/lites and to play more beat em ups. enter image description here

Thorn Dagger build as Karl is OP AF.

  • Get the inspiration that gives Karl a multi hit finisher
  • Get the ritual that spawns thorn daggers for when a finisher lands a hit. The multi-hit spawns daggers for each hit so you always have a good amount after 1 finisher.
  • Thorn Spread ritual to throw multiple at once like a spread …

Thorn Dagger build as Karl is OP AF.

  • Get the inspiration that gives Karl a multi hit finisher
  • Get the ritual that spawns thorn daggers for when a finisher lands a hit. The multi-hit spawns daggers for each hit so you always have a good amount after 1 finisher.
  • Thorn Spread ritual to throw multiple at once like a spread fire (I had it at 3 spread daggers per throw)
  • Thorn Echo ritual to leave more thrown thorn daggers as past echoes for each dagger thrown albiet ones that deal less damage
  • Power thorn Echo to make those past echo thorns deal even more damage.
  • Trinkets built around throwables and Bramble make this build incredibly effective against crowds and 1-on-1 fights.

That all lead me to my first win against the true final boss.

Very nice graphics, but I don't think the sidescroller action is for me. It feels weird to attack only left and right but also move up and down. But for fans of that mechanic, this might be something to look into.
