I have this game a second chance but this time playing it with my girlfriend, since it's clearly a game thought for co-op. Aaand, nope.

I have this game a second chance but this time playing it with my girlfriend, since it's clearly a game thought for co-op. Aaand, nope.

Playing with another person made it more bearable, but honestly nothing about this game is appealing at. The platforming is clunky and too demanding for the slippery controls. The combat is terrible, with unclear hitboxes and awkward shooting. The story is soooo boring and badly told that my girlfriend was instantly grabbing her phone every time there was any dialogue and by the end I was just smashing A to skip it all. The tower defense is also bad, but on that front I have to admit that I don't like tower defense in general. But still, you have 1 minute to gather the measley resources that are around, go from one corner of the map to the other to set up you traps and during waves it's impossible to understand anything that's happening sue to the bullet-hellness of it.

On top of that, having to change between characters is beyond annoying. Playing with two, is not that bad, but the Devs decided to add a third character! Each one has two weapons and the unused characters can be stationary or following you. So you basically have to juggle at least two characters, change their weapons, make sure that they are stationary somewhere where they are useful... all of that while defending some nonsense thing that explodes after two hits.

In this game you progress through a short level by jumping/shoot/hitting/building. At the end of the level there's an object that you have to defend. The platforming part is really basic, there's no dash, wall jump, double jump or whatever. The tower defense bit is worse. You use the clunky menus to build the multishot tower and maybe spikes or something. Each multishot tower requires these steps:

  • Open build menu
  • Confirm
  • Switch Character
  • Confirm
  • Open build menu
  • Confirm

You only get a minute to build towers and also have to gather resources first. The object you have to defend only has two hit points. If it loses one hit point you basically have to replay the map because you won't get "unlock/upgrade points".

I loved Trine (platformer with character switching) and i love tower defense games but Aegis Defenders is just too clunky, boring and hectic.

From the achievements percentages, I'm surprised to see just how little people played of Aegis Defenders, which is a real downright shame considering just how fun a title it is.

This is such a neat little game that I haven't heard enough about. It's really fun and unique.
