Aleosha's review of MechWarrior 2: Ghost Bear's Legacy

The game starts pretty decently. And you might think "oh, it's not as bad as people say it is". Believe me, it gets worse.
At first, there are just a couple of defensive missions, that you can complete without even moving. Then there's mission in space where you stand on your tiny spaceship and shoot at aerofighters. The ship is so tiny that if you move, you fall into space, so you're basically playing a mech-turret.
Unlike Mechwarrior 2, you can switch your mech only every two-three missions. Which makes sense, but when picking your mech for the first mission, you have absolutely no idea what type of mech other missions will require.
Then there's underwater level. It's simply horrible. You can barely see where you're going from all the visual artifacts, and your mech is also super fragile, "because water floods it". Oh, you have torpedoes, which you can outrun. Yes, you can get hit by your own torpedo, in the back.
Then there's the final nightmare of a mission. It's in space, which is not nice at all, as I mentioned. And you cannot pick your mech, so if you were playing something like Stone Rhino, which is …

Then there's the final nightmare of a mission. It's in space, which is not nice at all, as I mentioned. And you cannot pick your mech, so if you were playing something like Stone Rhino, which is a huge mech, you're screwed. Because you start under 4 turrets aimed at you, and they'll rip you to shreds in seconds. Because you cannot move. So. Much. Fun.
There appears to be a glitch (in a game full of glitches), where if you're playing in 640X480 or above, turrets have twice the normal rate of fire. Which you wouldn't notice, usually, because they're far away, and not directly in front of you. Playing in 320X200 drops their fire rate to normal values, though. Now, I hope, you get how broken this game is.
Oh, but that's not all. You have to use your jump jets to get into a hole as big as your mech. And if you miss - you die, because you're in space. In a game where you may not have used your jump jets at all, you can't finish final mission without using them like a pro. Done that? There's a reactor you need to destroy, then fall back through the tiny hole, just in time to reach your ship. But you won't make it. Because you'll get stuck in textures. Over. And over. Again.
