While there are slight changes to the structure of Darkstalkers in its first pseudo-sequel, Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge, this is basically like the Turbo or Championship Edition of Darkstalkers. But I just don't find this as satisfying to play as the original game, and I find the four new playable characters to be fairly disappointing. Whereas Darkstalkers created characters that almost felt like they were trying to be as different from Street Fighter as possible in the way they played, here, some of these characters are a real challenge to master.

For example, Donovan Baine and Hsien-Ko, the two completely new characters, just never quite worked for me, and the way they handled made them always a struggle to play as. Huitzil seems more in line with the oddities that Darkstalkers introduced, but still, he's a weird character to play as, especially since even jumping leaves you completely vulnerable to enemy attacks. I at least enjoyed Pyron, since he's so overwhelmingly overpowered that you can just wipe out anyone, and he truly does feel like you're playing as a god.

Not a bad version 2.0 of Darkstalkers, but I still prefer the original to this update.
