A Short, Touching Experience
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

Many Nights a Whisper is a really short, indie game from 2025 that can be completed in one sitting pretty easily. Despite it's length, I still recommend it to anyone looking for a more narrative driven experience in lieu of gameplay. There's not much playable content here, but what is here is great.

The game is split into two main sections. The first has you firing your slingshot at various chalices scattered around your small walkable area. At first you can only reach a few, with the goal being practicing well enough you'll be able to make the final shot when the time comes. The second section has you listening to requests by the townspeople at night, and determining if their wish is a noble one that you deem worthy of being granted. They start out simple enough, like take care of a sick parent, but eventually get complex to where you aren't sure what the "correct" outcome is. You'll go through a few of these wishes each night, with a small text quip about what things will look like if the wishes get granted. Granting wishes then allow your slingshot to be upgraded to fire further.

The story here is that once a generation, someone is chosen to fulfill the role you are in. You are to take the wishes of the townspeople, and you get one shot on one night to hit the largest, but furthest away chalice. If you hit it, all wishes you have been listening to will be granted. If you miss though, none of the wishes will come true. The game does only give you one chance to hit the final shot when the time comes. If you miss, well you'll get the bad ending and that's it. You'll have to replay from the beginning and try the shot again if you want the good ending. Thankfully it's pretty short and you can very quickly get back to the final shot if you miss it on the first try...or so what I've heard...

You get an achievement for I believe each of the chalices you hit, with an extra achievement for hitting secret objectives. So if you're searching for the next bump of that achievement sound, this is a great way to satisfy that itch.

It's a short, but fun and thoughtful game. I think I picked it up on sale for maybe $2 and still feel it's worth it if I had paid $5. Would recommend for an evening of entertainment!
