deepdoop's review of Overfall

7/10

I think some other people may like this more than me because I am not the biggest fan of roguelikes. I enjoy them, but every time I review one I always say that the idea of just starting over doesn't appeal to me as much as other gamers... even though they are procedurally generated and often have some form of progression. But anyway.

Overfall doesn't grip me but it's definitely a solid mixture of games. The runs are relatively short so you can complete them quickly, but there's enough diversity to keep them interesting, as you make decisions constantly and unlock new characters and other things. There's a sense of humour here, but the story feels inconsequential so it's hard to get invested.

But sailing around from island to island, building (or destroying) relationships with other races can be cool, and the turn-based combat is relatively neat as well: there are three stages your turns and that's an element that makes things a little more fresh.

Fun but hard to gush over because it isn't a game that pulls the player in, despite solid mechanics.
