I am digging this game as it feels more like a spiritual successor to the gameplay of Left 4 Dead but with a really fun aesthetic. It is in early access so it is a bit unrefined in spots and missing content (lots of coming soon in the various menus).

Things that are great:

  • The bright colorful spaceship is such a fun atmosphere. The Sci-Fi setting frees the game to have fun weapons, grenades, powers, and is just generally a fresh break from the grimey post-apocalyptic modern day world akin to most Zombie horde games.
  • Respawing killed allies at the cost of alerting the horde is a fantastic idea. It shortens the time players are out and further heightens the tension
  • It adds perks that you can find in-game and improve your character. These can be fairly powerful so are a fantastic reward for scouring the ship.

  • It is too easy to get knocked off the edge and then immediately die. Left …

  • It is too easy to get knocked off the edge and then immediately die. Left 4 Dead solved this by having the character be stuck hanging off the edge until your teammate comes to help you. This adds a penalty for being careless but at the same time is not overwhelmingly punishing. Seems like a feature they have yet to implement.
  • No difficulty levels. This makes it much harder to solo since the AI companions won't pick up or use special items. Right now it is hard to get a full crew of players.

I wish games like this allowed two player instead of just four player co-op. Game devs think I have more friends that play games than I do.
