BalanCity is a city building / balance physics game. It's a mixture between old school SimCity and Jenga. You must build the tallest towering city over a balancing platform while keeping your citizens happy. You can build residences, offices, power plants, train stations, airports, landmarks and more. You can play in different game modes: Free Build:A sandbox where your only limit is gravity. Missions: Levels that have a goal to achieve and limited resources. Scenarios: Based on real life cities, you must build all the landmarks before the city collapses.

(1,5 stars)

Intro

This is a much more basic Sim City in which you build vertically. You can play it for free on Kongregate.

The Good

  • There are a bunch of different scenarious for various cities and they all have local landmarks (e.g. Notre Dame).

  • This was released in September 2016 and has aged really well, lol:

lol

The Bad

  • The biggest flaw is that building is wonky. You have to stack two rows of residential blocks six floors high to get a skyscraper and it's a pain. A simple clipping function would've sufficed.

  • Buildings are locked behind missions and the second one is awful. You have to stack residential blocks really high (i'm guessing at least 30 stories) and the game rotates between different shapes. It isn't fun or a test of skill, just tedious.

  • The third tutorial mission broke twice for me. The first time it just got stuck. The second time the meteor knocked over my city. There's literally nothing you can do to stop it.

  • You have to manually send helicopters from the police station, hospital and fire station to help people.

  • You can't delete wind turbines that have fallen over.

  • There's basically no depth. Even …

Conclusion

I considered giving this 1 star but the city missions do give it some merit. I'm just not sure who the audience is for this type of game. There are countless better city sims. And people who like the Jenga aspect probably hate having to stack blocks super-neatly. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
