Didn't Hook Me, But Still Imrpessive And Advanced For Its Time

Preliminary: Beautiful integration of the FMV characters in a digital world, neat concept, very advanced in every way, and a lot of love put into this game like with the Hint skull guy. Preliminary: Beautiful integration of the FMV characters in a digital world, neat concept, very advanced in every way, and a lot of love put into this game like with the Hint skull guy. Not big into the music, but that's typical of "horror" games. And I bored of this more quickyl than I expected. I had even bought it on Steam thinking it would hook me a la the earlier graphic adventures. Either I'm entering a new era, or it was just the music/Look. The music and Look are impressive, and this has to be one of the most advanced games I've played so far if not the most advanced, but I don't seek out "creepy" adventure games generally (like my aversion to comedic adventure games).

Look: 8.5/10 Amazing integration of FMV and a 3d world. I wish I were more into the vibe/aesthetic, but it's undeniably impressive.

Sound: 7/10 Meh. Well I gave a boost cuz the excellent voice tracks

Play: 7/10 Made with love, but didn't click with me

Feel: 7/10

Attachment: 7/10

Overall: 7.3/10

Most interesting part about this adventure is that you can finish it without seeing half of the content. And it's not some piece of text that you miss, but whole cutscenes. The game would be bearable, if not for the fireplace puzzle in the beginning and the final act. 7th episode totally ruins the game, with awkward action scenes, that …

When Phantasmagoria was released I bought the game but it bugged out when I tried to play it. It always annoyed me that I couldn't play it but now I finally was able to after buying it on GOG.com.
Roberta Williams wrote Phantasmagoria. The main character explores a house with many secrets and fans who have played her older games Mystery House and Colonel's Bequest will feel right at home! But with one noticeable difference, this time the place is haunted! Phantasmagoria succeeds on many levels: the story is very intriguing and the atmosphere is great. The game is also manage to start out as slightly creepy and only gets more frightening as the chapters pass by. Gameplay is easy but that was fine with me. In this case it works since I didn't want any overly complicated puzzles to ruin the immersion. Graphics were gorgeous back then but it feels outdated now. There was a lot of work on details around the house and this adds to the positive experience.
In short, if you're into adventure games and horror you don't want to miss this great game.
