It was an epic game. But, I wish the battle system was more convenient and it was a bit shorter. I had been playing it for almost a month (mainly because I didn't get the time to play continuously this month).
Actual Score: 3.5/5
I could not force myself to finish this game. It was just too freakin long and it didn't feel like there was any real payoff going to happen. I put like 20 hours into the main story and i still felt like i was at the beginning. I liked that you could upgrade your forces and have this nice platoon of troops as you explored this rpg world. That was creative and i dont think ive seen this system in other games. But the combat itself could be a bore and the characters were all pretty nonsensical. I was fairly interested in the story but it just seemed to drag on and on that i just couldn't take it. Not a terrible game but they definitely should have shortend it some and improved the combat and then maybe it would have been passable.
Voto: 5/10
Now 45-50 hours in and a little over halfway through a 100%ish run.
I definitely did not forget how long this game is, but even sidequests take around an hour each unless you avoid encounters altogether! Since I have already beaten it and would like to play other games this summer, I am fine using maps to help me finish stuff more quickly :-)
Excited to be playing the remastered version on Switch. I put a lot of time into beating this game back in 2008-09 on the 360. There are serious flaws, like the awful (even for 2008) graphics and camera, but the unique battle system and awesome soundtrack are enough to make me want to relive it. I will admit that there is some nostalgia involved as well...
Well I'm doing it. Over the weekend I decided to give up on finishing The Last Remnant. Even though I feel like I am quite close to the end, I can't get by an incredibly cheap enemy and I'm just kind of done with it.
I'm not going to give this game a score as I didn't finish it, but if I were to it would be 2 stars. The battle system has so much potential but the entire game reeks of rushing to publish. It's as if the systems were mostly in place and then the actual progression was slapped on last minute. There are aspects that make no sense, such as being able to unlock and hire unique party members but not being able to use them above simple hired soldiers. You can craft all sorts of weapons and accessories but can only actively equip them on one character, leaving the rest to chance as you hope that maybe they will ask for something you have. It's just all so frustrating.
Honestly, I'm kind of mad at myself for sticking with it as long as I did.
Blargh! I got to a double boss fight in Last Remnant over the weekend and died on the second boss. (No, you can't save in between.) Now I need to try and decide if I back out of the dungeon I'm in to level up, which would then cause me to have to redo the whole dungeon to try the bosses again. Problem is, what does leveling up really do? /sigh
