My snowboarding fixation continues with one of the first games (if not THE first game) I can ever remember playing. There's no way I understood the level of depth that Cool Boarders 3 has as a four year old. Compared to the flashy and bombastic SSX 3, a game which tries to capture the vibes of snowboarding, Cool Boarders 3 captures the experience of snowboarding amazingly well.
For example, board selection actually matters depending on the type of event you want to play. The freestyle boards are clearly mimicking the rocker profile snowboards you might use in the terrain park - smaller, not great for speed or carving, but easy to spin or jib with. The alpine boards on the other hand are the exact opposite - camber profile directional boards that are built for speed only. If you try to ride switch with an alpine board, your character will start spraying snow everywhere and fall down, and performing tricks isn't as easy either.
Details like this along with a plethora of unlockable boards, characters, and mountains makes this game insanely addicting to play. A treat from 1998 that tastes just as good as I remember it.
