It's A Bug Party

Had a really pleasant 5 hours with this little platformer! Packed with lots of charm, character, and some really nice physics based gameplay.

Playing as a tiny jumping spider on a mission to save her boyfriend, you meet lots of cute insects whilst travelling through the map. I liked how each part of the map was populated by a different insect and with it came a different biome which really changes up the pace and style of the gameplay. There's quite a few collectibles to go after too if that's your thing. It's the sort of game I don't want to post too many screenshots or gifs of because it's nice to discover some of the mechanics for yourself!

My favourite part of the game aside from the visuals and world, was the web mechanics. Swinging around is a ton of fun once you get the hang of it, and using your webs to attach and pull things is really satisfying. If you really wanted to you could sit and spin your own spider web, and come to think of it I don't think there's another game out there that lets you do anything like that. It's the freedom you …

If you really wanted to you could sit and spin your own spider web, and come to think of it I don't think there's another game out there that lets you do anything like that. It's the freedom you have in how you tackle each issue which makes it so fun, you can web things in so many different ways that there's always a feeling of satisfaction no matter how you complete the challenge. After a while of trying to figure out the best way to carry a gear cog up to a piece of machinery I had a lightbulb moment and found a way to hoist things up really quickly which felt great to discover myself.

If I had one issue with the game it would probably be that at times I would get a bit lost, especially if I had put the game down for a few days. There's a world map and objectives listed in your journal, but some areas feel so big that at times I was scratching my head, similarly some objectives aren't very clear and I found myself having to google what I was supposed to do. I also found a few areas towards the end had me swinging through pretty empty sections that felt a bit like filler but that might just be me. Thankfully the level layout almost channel you in one direction so if you keep walking / swinging you should find your way.

It's a fun game though and definitely one to check out if you have a soft spot for platformers and neat physics mechanics in games. Also keep an eye out for the totally rad skater birb.

💖🕷️ Cute game about spiders (and other bugs)
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version
  • The game is extermely cute and positive. The soundtrack is also cute. In general this one got me smiling the same way LocoRoco did.
  • You can weave webs between everything to crawl on them and catch flies.
  • Nice physics engine. (Reminds me of rain world with the way bugs move here)
  • Mastering web swinging and flying at incredibly hihg speeds feels very nice.
  • Collectibles done right. One of few games where I cared to find every secret area and collect everything.

I guess this game is not for everyone, but I liked it a lot.

Why didn't anyone tell me there's a game where you skateboard as a spider? This is the cutest fucking thing I've ever seen, dude.

Already one of the best games I've played all year. So Relaxing, Comfy, and swinging around is so enjoyable for some reason.
