I don't like to write negative reviews and just mark them as one star and move on, but I want to rememeber this one because I often forget the name of it. and it really is a stinker. Ohhh yes I remember you now.... time to write!
Now, while there is some decent possibility this game improved, (because it was so bad, it surely couldnt at least get worse?) as i played it early on, it was so very broken its hard to imagine it ever being decent... This game seemed to have failed in every imaginable way. Lets recount the ways:
A dark supposed stealth game but all mechanics are broken. Level Lighting and stealth was often such that dark areas.... werent actually safe 'dark' places to sneak or hide! some lighter areas, were! WhileI can imagine this issue being the case in a lot of stealth games but i've never actually played a game this flawed. It's literally like they mapped the hiding spots in some invisible manner that has nothing to do with what the player sees. Its very noticable and really frustrating due to how fast enemies chase you down and kill ya. Well dont …

You can try. There is some FPS element to it. there are basic weapons: but little ammo, OK survival horror right? No, not really.... sometimes you can't seem to hit things on the crosshair, invisible obstacles that can block shots, etc. 'clipping' issues/stuck in walls that block the player as well, which is very routine in Solarix. This encourages a player to explore (or rather overcome invisible walls) to get through the map only to make their situation worse. There are instances where a player can explore to fall out of the map and not know it. this is not the darkness you are looking for
Back to getting stuck...I just remembered the specific aspect of how you will 'stick' to floors and walls and more or less not be able to move. There is no game I've seen that 'stucks' the player like this. You will jump around hit some invisble wall and... Flypaper! To make it worse the enemies are bullet sponges and go from aimless zombies searching for food to crackshot reflex commandos that spin around and run at you the minute you attack them. Really the zombies are smart, they get bord and do the patrol thing but really they are just waiting for the dumb player to get stuck, they'll hear them jumping into the invisible flypaper wall and that's their cue: ding ding its dinner time! Everything in the game was just wrong as an FPS.
some RPG elements. There were data logs and SHOCK styled emails: the resolution would hang and extend and bloat making the bottom text of the email unreadable! This was what really did it in for me as a 'last straw i hate this game' The one redeeming thing the game had goingfor it (besides being able to shoot the lights out which didnt seem to work right) was an interesting system of logs and emails with voice acting, yet you couldnt read them! I'm known to slog through games with many a grievance for the sake of some story but being punished for trying to read the logs? that blew a fuse for me.
Curse this game!
I just came across this look at how many things are just off about it:
I can't recall invisible walls in shooters or weird mapping issues trying to move around and how to get stuck and unstuck the way you could in this game (Bethesda pay attention, indie devs are catching up!) I guess I can only blame myself but I got this confusedly thinking it was SOMA, and not realizing my error i just couldn't believe why people thought it was good, Good trick. def not 'so bad it's good' it's unplayable bad and that's all. This game was broken or flawed in almost every imaginable way and I imagine you could even learn about bugs in games playing it, but beware the flypaper lest you become a bug yourself. Sorry there is probably no kafka type philosophical depth if you actually do proceed through the whole game but you might go through some major existential woes in having done so. don't get caught in the web of this one. it's not dead space its not shock2 its not soma.
