The only way I can describe this game is delightful.

Beautiful pixel art, satisfying exploration, fun gameplay, addictive upgrades, goofy and at time heartwarming story. The feeling of constant progress and satisfaction, along with the charm and the aesthetics, make this game the perfect relaxing summer experience.

I'm working from home today on a course and strongly resisting the urge to play Dave the Diver while trying to listen to the instructor. The game is fun but my will is strong...

Thanks to this video, I think the final nail in the coffin of my desire to play this game has been placed. Why does no one else talk about the fact that this game is mini-game hell? I thought I might be receptive to putting the whole fishing aspect aside, but the sheer number of mini-games in this is my …

It's a good game, but honestly, it's quite overrated. For a while, I heard about this game everywhere, even on NPR. That's not to say it isn't fun or enjoyable. The core gameplay loop gets a bit stale. By the end, I was skipping days just to get the Fishmon.

One thing I specifically want to call out is how awesome the Dredge tie-in is, the devs absolutely crushed that!

I like the gameplay in this quite a bit but I kinda don’t like killing and eating fish, and the “bad guys” being environmentalists that are quite correct about what you are doing (killing fish). They try to hand wave it as “what about the commercial fishing vessels???! Go after them!” But, at least as far as I’ve gotten in …

I like the gameplay in this quite a bit but I kinda don’t like killing and eating fish, and the “bad guys” being environmentalists that are quite correct about what you are doing (killing fish). They try to hand wave it as “what about the commercial fishing vessels???! Go after them!” But, at least as far as I’ve gotten in the game, there’s no “Joja Fisheries” to demonstrate the difference with commercial fishing and to act as a foil.

I really enjoyed the loop of the early gameplay. I really enjoyed the loop of the early gameplay. Dive for fish and bring them back to the restaurant to cook, upgrade your diving equipment to go deeper and catch more challenging creatures, upgrade your restaurant to serve your patrons more quickly, target specific fish for VIP customers or events, rinse repeat. I loved the chill nature of it with few fail states or high stakes.

Once you get to the Sea People Village it feels like a lot of standard fetch quests with a few mini games thrown in. Layering on top of the basic mechanics they add farming and fish farming, which is a lot of spinning plates. However, they don’t seem terribly sophisticated and so I can mostly ignore them.

This game is much longer than I expected and after 3 of the 7 chapters I may be done with it. I just wasn’t expecting this much of a plot and unfortunately it just isn’t that compelling to me. It has fallen into standard video game tropes and I very much was looking for something different. But overall, I enjoyed my time with it.

been absorbed in this for about a week now. probably going to be the best indie game i'll play this year. I like this unlockable format. (Is there a term for that?) Loop Hero and Inscryption both did this and it seems to mesh well with the indie charm (doesnt have to be a roguelite!)

Dropping this one very close to the end of the game. It's just too repetitive and poorly designed for me to want to grind this out. Its almost like exploring mazes of same-y generated reefs with no interesting or meaningful geometry and low value incremental interactibles can't make the core of the game last its full 20~ hour runtime. Its almost like exploring mazes of same-y generated reefs with no interesting or meaningful geometry and low value incremental interactibles can't make the core of the game last its full 20~ hour runtime. Bizarre. Very much quantity over quality as far as mechanics and depth go, which is also ironic for a game about going deeper into the depths. Gorgeous looking game though, great animations.

I finished downloading this at 11pm last night and stopped playing it at 4:30am. Maybe it is too addicting.
