Butcher is an easy game to review.
You play as a Terminator-esque death machine tasked with killing humans. It plays somewhat like a 2D version of DOOM: you have the firepower, but they have the numbers, and you'll need to keep moving to avoid death. Levels are quick and satisfying, and brutalizing humans with shotguns and flamethrowers and buzzsaws never gets old. It has a great look and an even better soundtrack.
That's really about it. Butcher is a game best enjoyed by measured expectations. Don't expect a story or a twist that changes up gameplay. It's short. It knows exactly the game that it wants to be. If you jive with that then you'll love it.
For platformer shooter fans, from creators of KaG and Soldat.
Good gameplay: Hard enough to keep you on the brink of quitting, but let you beat it.
Good graphics: Cover entire map with blood of your enemies. Use imagination to compensate for pixelated gore.
Good physics: Split your enemy in two, see his lower body dangle on his guts. Kick it around the map.
Good sound: Weapons sound nice, enemies moaning in agony sounds even better. Soundtrack is just as brutal.
Good length: short levels and short game that doesn't overstay its welcome.
Railgun feels great. I like how it leaves heat trails on the walls it pierced.
Unfortunately it's too pixilated for my taste, to the point of being difficult to play, also I like more exposure in my horror games :)
As well as a bit too hard. Having Terraria-like control method it's almost a tactic/action, gore/slaughter 2D shooter with constant lack of ammo and platforming that sometimes difficult to perform with WASD+Mouse for aiming, rather then controller for platforming and the controller won't give the aiming as precise as WASD+Mouse resulting in double-edged sword situation
Simply put: if you like gore, and somewhat skill-based /challenging/ 2D shooter, it's for you.
Free on GOG. Looks overly retro for my taste, but it's got acceptable reviews.

This trailer has been out for a while, but it was also on show for the Devolver conference. Looks cool, the dev's last game was Butcher, which I enjoy.
Carrion is a reverse horror game in which you assume the role of an amorphous creature of unknown origin. Stalk and consume those that imprisoned you to spread fear and panic throughout the facility. Grow and evolve as you tear down this prison and acquire more and more devastating abilities on the path to retribution.
