Preliminary: So I haven't been able to play retro games lately. This week was supposed to be a "vacation" week off scheduled streams, because next week I start back full-time at the school. Instead, Monday I wake up to finished parts of my basement flooded, Wednesday a bunch of personal stuff is hacked and I spend all day dealing with it, and lots of other stuff came up from housework to friends/family plans! Ah! To top it off, when I did get some relax/game time, which wasn't much, I was very oddly craving OSRS PVM. I finally tried Tombs of Amascut and as much as I still feel like I'm not ever gonna be in love with PVM, I can't deny I was hooked. Like tonight I really wanted to try to solo 150 again (successfully done it once so far), but some friends came by. The fact I have that urge makes ToA very different from any other PVM I've tried so far. But anyway, retro games are much more relaxing and chill! Darn OSRS stressful PVM sucking up my precious time on such a stressful week!

Lol uh. The walk of this main character is super weird, but hey, it's full body sprites... Not really sure how this has anything to do with the Labyrinth movie tho it's been years since I've seen it.
Sound: 7/10 Great, moody, 80s music. I mean, not great compared to C64 jams, but great cuz of the vibe and absurdity of it. Otherwise, mostly just annoying footsteps/sound effects. Nice touch with the piano room playing different notes/timbres when you Hit Wall. The Crystal Ball sound is annoying
Play: 7/10 Lol the intro text adventure, tho a bit tedious, is funny cute and meta. The arcade adventure segment, especially at first, felt slow and clunky. At least the controls were relllatively responsive.
Okay, I can't fault the game itself for this but the fact it uses the Cursor Control Keys for the command wheels (instead of just the fire button? or some other combination like most games that had this feature at this time?... I guess I can/do blame the game a bit :-p ), I just could not figure out how to replicate that!
Now that I got it working, things are moving along. And the Cursor Key system ain't awful. That always was as dilemma for this era of adventures, how to have multiple commands while feeling like an arcade/action adventure. The movement and loading are slow. And this brick hallway is tedious (open every door gimmick? meh) But what would an early adventure game be without some tedium?! This is quite a large adventure from what I'm gathering! And to think they give 13 hours to complete it! Ah!
Feel: 7/10 Lol the name Jareth, I forgot that was his name in the movie, but makes me think of the Arrested Development quote "Jareth Cutestory" (apparently it's Chareth, but). Very cool how there's multiple optional "side" quests type things, like in the Goblin Castle. Very expansive, albeit a bit tedious and cumbersome.

Quite a few times I thought I should drop the game. Maybe it was just a weirdness lingering from having tried pvm in OSRS and once again affirming I'm not really cut out for it. Or if it really was the slow movement in this game and the tedious attempts at action-adventure parts (what are collision masks? haha). But here I was, pushing through anyway. The fact you can throw Fiery's head to see what's through certain doorways was a nice touch :-p Helped with the randomness factor that I'm never a big fan of. And with the clunky action-adventure attempts. I am quite proud of getting across the Bog bridge on my first attempt :-p, but it did give flashbacks to the worst parts of Below the Root haha. And at last
I wish I knew the movie better cuz I bet the options would be more entertaining :-p And it would boost the Feel probly with all the references. It is very expansive with lots of possibilities and in-house jokes. Lots of cute touches and quirks to this that show it was made with love, but too clunky and tedious (as early microcomputer action-adventures tend to be) for me to say I loved it.
Completion: Main Story, Did some of the optional stuff (like luring away and giving a Peach to the Goblin in Stone Corridor) Playtime: ~1h 15m
