At its heart The Long Reach is an adventure game. Closer inspection also reveals it's a thrilling horror story, flavoured with sci-fi ideology, psychological context and a skeptical view on the human psyche.

Spanish translation problems

Game's great, the problem as usual is that there has to be some cheap ass translator that gets contracted to translate a lot of this type of games to Spanish, and he/she does a really bad job. In games where story is told through dialogue you just can't go around translating everything literally. Character interactions sound absurd, conversations don't flow at all... and this doesn't have anything to do with the madenning nature of the events in the game, those kinds of conversations absolutely can have flow and meaning even if they are happening between crazed characters. But they don't in this translation. If you have a good enough grasp of English you can point with your finger to the lines that have been translated literally and that would work so much better or at all if they were translated intelligently. And that finger pointing happens every few seconds in this translation of The Long Reach.

I bet this just makes a lot of players lose track of the story and think that the game has bad writing, which I absolutely bet it has not in the original language and probably either in English.

I hope game makers take note …

I hope game makers take note of this and stop contracting these kind of cheap but bad translators because it's something that I've seen cropping up more and more in Spanish translations of games for the last couple of years.

Besides that, game's great. Nice story, atmosphere, puzzles and reveals.

Story/dialogue didn't grab me particularly but the pixel art was purdy.

I give it a 3.5 star rating. The soundtrack is great and so is the art and the storyline is very interesting. However, the English mistakes are quite evident which ended up making the plotline a little confusing, some parts just downright make no sense. I would love to play this again with a better translated script.
