J.R.R. Tolkien's True Intent, I'm Sure
This review is for the Xbox 360 version

LEGO games are kind of bullshit, right? Like, from a gameplay perspective, they're absurdly repetitive and simple and they all play the exact same way. I find it amusing/distressing that I actually seem to frequently get stuck in these games and the solution always ends up being the same exact thing: smash more bricks. Like, of course that's what you had to do. That's THE ONLY THING YOU EVER DO IN THESE GAMES! The only real thing the LEGO games have going for them is the licenses, something I seem to have been repeatedly been duped by in the past. I can't tell you how many times I've scrolled past LEGO Jurassic Park on the Switch library and thought, "You know... maybe..." But I know it's not what I really want. What I want is for something to make me feel the way it feels to watch a Jurassic Park film, or a Lord of the Rings film... something that these games, sadly, will never be able to recreate.

A must play for any LOTR fan
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

The lego games format is well established by this point, and while not too many changes to the formula have been implemented at this point, replaying the LOTR films in lego format is fun and engaging. The more open ended world, where you have to get from place to place in order to start the next level is a great, albeit small, way of seeing the LOTR locations in lego format.

Your Typical Lego Game
This review is for the PlayStation Vita version

Lego Lord of the Rings is a pretty solid Lego video game. If you have played a Lego video game before, then you already know what the gameplay is like. Basically, you play through the story of The Lord of the Rings- smashing bricks, collecting characters and other collectibles along the way. Its the same formula that Traveller's Tales have used for all of their Lego games for years, I guess if its not broke, don't fix it!
To be fair, they did a pretty good job at re-creating Middle-Earth in Lego form and re-telling the story of The Lord of the Rings. This game will definitely appeal to fans of the books/films and is also a great introduction to one of the biggest series in the fantasy genre.

I only have a couple of negative moments from my time playing the game. First of all, for most people, this is an incredibly easy game and I did find it get repetitive- especially when you get to the point where you are replaying levels in order to get the locked characters. The other negative is the camera. Oh the camera. The camera in this game has a life …

First of all, for most people, this is an incredibly easy game and I did find it get repetitive- especially when you get to the point where you are replaying levels in order to get the locked characters. The other negative is the camera. Oh the camera. The camera in this game has a life of its own and in some levels becomes almost unusable, which does taint the experience a bit. This may be a problem exclusive to the Vita version of the game but it is still noticeable.

Despite these little niggles, I would still recommended Lego The Lord of the Rings, especially if you are a fan of The Lord of the Rings or the Lego games. It won't win any Game of the Year awards but I did have a good time playing it.

AlexKar's review of LEGO The Lord of the Rings

Alright the Lego games are always fun, but nothing serious. Still this is my favorite Lego game. Maybe because I love the story so much, maybe because I am such a huge fan of the story, but I really do enjoy playing it. Story-wise I have played it so damn many times and as for the free map, this is the only game I have reached 99%. I think I only had one thing left to complete it, but couldn't do it. Such a fun game.
