Picked up this game a week ago on sale. I've always wanted to get into one of these dungeon-crawley games but none of them have ever really grabbed me.. after a while the grinding and repetitive fights, ridiculous labyrinths and over-the-top difficulty and learning curve usually scare me away. Elimage Gothic was an example, I tried really hard to get into it but I couldn't do it.. the lack of automap feature kinda killed it for me (though I know there's a kind of workaround).

Anyway, so far I'm really enjoying Stranger of Sword City. The combat is great, the dungeons/exploration is fun, the story and visuals are amazing and engaging. I'm playing it on ultra-easy-babby mode and I'm still struggling but it's fun nonetheless. It feels a bit like Darkest Dungeon set in a weird 3D weeby universe. Really beautiful backgrounds/monsters/character designs. Combat isn't too complex or convoluted. There's actually a mode to change between anime-weeb character design or a more realistic/painterly/western design. I went for weeb mode, but the other mode is cool too.

I hope I can stick it through and finish this thing, it looks like it's going to be a gigantic game with hundreds of hours of content, maybe thousands for me since I suck at it and I'm so new to the genre.
