Disney's Hercules: Action Game (kinda of a silly name, now that I think of it) is a nifty little game. It's another one I played through together with my girlfriend since the game was one of her childhood favourites. I, too, played the game as a kid... kinda. I think I had the demo of it and definitely would not have minded to have the full game. Nevermind the past, how the game holds up in 2024? Pretty well.
First and foremost, the game looks really, really good. The 2D art and animation is absolutely top-notch. The game is divided into 2D platformer sections and Space-Harrier-esque running sections and both sections look really nice and have great, varied levels. There's also a shoot em' up stage but the less said about it the better.
The gameplay itself is pretty solid. The platforming gameplay is kinda sluggish but totally manageable and quite fun nevertheless. The running stages seem difficult at first but can be mastered nicely with some tolerance for trial and error. There's a also few cool boss fights in the mix too. As was the trend back in the day, the stages have different items to collect but these …

Looks and gameplay aside, the game has a well-made soundtrack with some jazzy tunes as well as in-game banter and pixelated video clips from the movie to carry the story between levels. These manage tell the story effectively enough. Not bad.
All in all, the game is about 3-4 hours long and not overly difficult (aside from the horribly frustrating shoot 'em up level). A short and worthile experience, I'd say.
A classic Disney adventure game that plays surprisingly well on PC, but aged a bit badly. I bought it for nostalgic reasons and beat it under 2 hours, so it's a short experience, but I had fun. The level order is quite strange (2 boss battles after each other in the middle of the game), but I haven't seen the animated movie yet, so who knows, maybe it makes sense and I also like ancient Greek mythology, so it's fun being a hero and beating those monsters.
Disney’s Hercules is a good game and one of the better pure platformers for the PlayStation. It’s also the best Disney game for the system although there isn’t much competition in that area. The game is also dirt cheap as it was also released for the PC. Buy this game.
Well, I already now why I never beat this game as a kid, even while renting it every single week.
It's HARD. Painfully and despairingly hard. If now, as a grown-up with savestates, am getting annoyed, I can't see young me having enough patience to try and beat this.
Got it for very cheap on Steam just for nostalgia's sake. This game really shows it's age. A password system instead of saves, stiff combat, midi-level music and repetitive sound-bites. Is not really enjoyable to play nowadays.
