You can make a really nice home in Palia. It looks a lot better in-game, but this will give you an idea. Also my house is very much WIP and there are infinitely better looking houses you can visit with home tours.

Btw, if you wanna try it out (it's free, paid cosmetics only), feel free to use my referral …

Played a bit of this in the past week. This is a really enjoyable Stardew Valley-like, reframed as a 3D adventure, and mechanically it works pretty well. The art style is a little sterile and Fortnite-y for my tastes, but it does look nice. However, performance on the Switch is very bad. I faced constant bouts of lag. On top of that, there don't seem to be many meaningful reasons to interact with other players. Seems like another example of a game that feels like it's persistently online to sell you cosmetics instead of offering compelling multiplayer gameplay. Regardless, I might give it a second try once it comes to Steam.

I knew this game was coming, but didn't really follow it up to its release on the 15th (on Switch, anyway).

It's free to play, and it's honestly really beautiful. A lot of cozy games with farming and item placement/building tend to have controls that don't jive super well for me, or are otherwise tedious. Palia gets some major points for how simple and effective it is to do these tasks. I don't tend to have a lot of faith in what the Switch can run, especially with an online game, but it's all pretty smooth. Once you leave your homestead and enter town where other players are running around, it's a little stuttery sometimes, but it's not too bad, and I've had no crashes.

They do have a cash shop, but it's just for outfits. They're INSANELY expensive. I know the game is free and I guess it's a way to keep things running, but holy shittt. Per my perusal, getting 5100 of the paid currency is like $48. Most of the outfits are between 1700-2500 coins. That's like $20+ for a single outfit. They're all bundled to where you can buy all three variations of the given outfit for a discount, but pretty much all of those bundles are around 5000 coins.

I know I've posted about this before, and I know what the obvious answer to this questions is, but why does everything look like Fortnite? I'm all for stylized aesthetics over photorealism, but this doesn't feel like the style I wanted to take over the game industry.

Is it just me or does this look like Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon farming/life sim mechanics meets Fortnite aesthetic?

Just read this Kotaku article for this game and super intrigued! Could be an amazing game to recruit the whole family, young and old, to play together. Seems pretty far away though and I would need it to come to Switch or something for that to happen. 😀

Now that we have Hokko Life for the PC crowd, why not make room for another PC game that people describe as similar to Animal Crossing? This time it's an AC style MMO called Palia. Check out the announcement video:
