What the game has got going for it: Interesting puzzle ideas, a good compelling first hour. That's about it.
Unfortunately, the story only felt to me like game mechanics after game mechanics and I didn't feel engaged enough to want to play it all the way through. I might have pushed through it all just for the sake of completion, if it wasn't for the painstaking having to get around this town map where everything looks alike. Seriously, it ended up giving me a headache. The atmosphere, which is compelling at first, doesn't ever really change and starts feeling empty and confusing after a while. The voice acting is over the top and gets irritating quickly, because you're just hearing voices. It's hard to understand who is who at times.
Some puzzles were fine, but most were confusing and not very logical. Quite a few I solved by brute force and others i had to look up. The setting and the atmosphere at the beginning got me going, but the game slowly became a confusing mess with a very depressive and repetitive setting... All the character's are confused ghosts and you never know who's talking to who or what are they talking about. The story ends abruplty, without making any sense...
"It was like it never happened" are the player character’s final words. They are an apt description of my feelings towards this title. I give Lake Ridden a forgettable pre-review score of 5/10
