Overhead shooter that also (with perfect balance) mixes in brawler-like melee mechanics. You also have blocking, dash-dodging, grapples, and super attacks that use a meter. Boss fights turn it into a bullet hell and there is A LOT of bosses. Each stage has multiple mini-bosses in addition to a big guy at the end. And you can even upgrade your stats and buy new guns between levels. Mechanically it's incredibly well made putting togeather elements from all sorts of different genres in a way that's perfectly balanced. For instance you'd think having a block button would trivilize the bullet hell parts, but because projectiles quickly over-heat your shield, which stuns you, you can't cheese with it. It's amazing how well it's balanced.

It's also fairly challenging, you'll struggle on every level. It even has 2-player mode.

The game is also fairly long with more than 20 stages and lots of reasons to replay it: there's 3 characters (one of whom must be unlocked), an upgrade system which would require playing the game at least twice to experience it's full content, a survival mode, and score-attacks.

So here's the bad news. The visuals of enemies and environment is a real let down though, with boring industrial areas and generic looking robots/troopers It really hurts the appeal. It also has the worst loading times on the console. It takes close to a minute to load each level, which you must sit through every time you die.
