Commando: Origins was meant to revive the franchise after years of silence, but it falls short. There is no cohesive story and the missions feel quite random. However, the missions are varied and the commandos offer different strategies. Don’t expect a lot of freedom or creativity. Despite detailed gameplay mechanics, numerous bugs severely impact the experience, often forcing players to reload saves. With optimization issues also present, it's best to wait for a few patches before diving in to enjoy the nostalgic gameplay.

Mouse And Keyboard Or Bust

I did a few missions and spent a few hours. I really enjoyed the original back in the day on PC.

Unfortunately, instead of making controller controls for the console version (I played on XSX) they ADAPTED the controls TO controller! It is just too clunky and unpleasant to play on controller.

Still pretty fun but eventually the fight with controlling it was too much. I am old enough that I will drop something as soon as I am not having fun and can see that it will not get better.

Played a demo of the Commandos reboot, and this was the first thing it asked before I even got to the main menu and I think it deserves some notice for it. You can chose whether Nazi flags are adorned with the historically accurate swastika or opt for the modern trend of using the Iron Cross in it's place.

Played a demo of the Commandos reboot, and this was the first thing it asked before I even got to the main menu and I think it deserves some notice for it. You can chose whether Nazi flags are adorned with the historically accurate swastika or opt for the modern trend of using the Iron Cross in it's place.

I think this is a great way to handle the issue, by giving players choice. Not to go on a long soapbox rant, but I don't like the current trend of media rewriting history by using the Iron Cross in the swastika's place. I get it's a hate symbol still used today, but that's because it was used by the Nazis in WWII. I don't think including it in a WWII-set game means the developers support fascism. To wash it's use from historical media and use the Iron Cross in it's place is a disservice to history and the Iron Cross. Yes, the Nazis also used that symbol in WWII, but it's tied to German history at large & I wouldn't consider it solely a hate symbol.

So, I appreciate a game that gives me a historically authentic option, but I also respect them taking the time to make it a toggleable feature.
