Anyone playing this in the future, learn from my mistake and don't try and just play this. Follow a walkthrough every step of the way, at least as a reference. I've restarted once and now discovered I locked out content only available earlier in the game that is some of the game's most powerful stuff. I do enjoy a lot about the game but the opaque and easy to miss stuff that is essential to being able to beat the game is not my favorite part.
