I'm going to be honest with you, before I played this game I never really understood grand strategy games. They used to be all over the steam store front pages. At Least for me. And I always wondered what exactly they were. Is a turn based game like a card game you play against a computer? Because that would get boring quickly. With this mindset I have started to ignore them whenever they came across me. Until I got the opportunity to review this game. The developer was nice enough to ask me if I was interested to try it out, so I took my chances, and I'm happy I did. Turn based games are nothing like I imagined them to be, quite the opposite, they are very fun! Essentially you have a turn, but the moment you're done you “continue” on to your next turn, there's no waiting involved. With this turn-based game, you are leading an empire in outer space doing typical leader things: feed your people, develop your technology and go to war. A classic. The amount of options this game lets you choose from is virtually endless. I myself haven't discovered them all yet, thinking I actually did. Ups. But I don't want to spoil the fun for you, it's really something you have to discover yourself.
One of the small things I love about non high end games is that you can play them anywhere. They are so accessible, with any graphics card or CPU. Doesn't matter what, they are always available. From your gaming pc to your chromebook. This game fits into that category and that's what I love about it. I don't have to worry about whether this game is playable on my setup, I can just press the download button and start it up without worrying if my pc is going to catch on fire or not. Yet, I want to stress that this game has crisp details everywhere and no issues of lagging or stuttering. Even on the steam deck, the game manages to stay very clean and attractive to the player. This is no non high end game BUT missing textures or bad rendering type of game.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, comes the highlight of my review, drumroll... Is the game worth it? One word answers only. Yes. Yes it is, however some things should be emphasized. First, this game features a bunch of translations. If you're planning to use one, keep in mind that while (at least for German) there are random bits here and there that will be in English. I can imagine that this will be fixed in a future update so it's not the end of the world. Secondly, while steam deck verified, and working, it's almost impossible to read on there. Yeah, don't do it. Thirdly, during the time I played the GPU usage spiked once after a new turn, causing the fan to quickly accelerate. While this didn't cause any issue, I just want to warn others that the same might happen to you but is nothing to worry about. And yea, there you have it. Will you still be planning to pick up the game? If so, good luck fellow commander!
