Sea of Solitude’s potential is never fully realized. It’s beautiful to look at, but it ends up being a lovely splash in a shallow pond. The story was compelling enough that I wanted to see it through to the end, but the repetitive tasks within it lost their charm in the first half. While not a long game, by the end of Sea of Solitude I just wanted things to be done. It felt like it ran out of things to offer me long before it ended. There are some enjoyable, even magical moments, in Sea of Solitude but they’re mixed in with some mediocrity that make it just a decent experience rather than sublime one. Loved it. It's a great exploration of depression and the way we deal with the problems of the people we love. Is a little blunt and direct in it's narrative, but it works.
It's not a perfect game. The jumping and moving is not as precise as it could be and the 'message' is a little muddled at the end. The game mechanics don't evolve a lot, but it's only a 4 hours experience so it won't get repetitive or boring.

Also, the world is beautiful and evocative. It has some surprising horror elements that made me nervous in a couple of moments (yes, it's because of the 'whale').
I recommend it, but I think a lot of people will find its bluntness, shortness and lack of challenge dissapointing.
One of the better games dealing with life and the heavy sh*t it bring with changes and letting go. Unfortunately it game play has awkward movements and just plain graceless. I notice some games either have great storylines but the game mechanic's didnt get the attention it needs to run smooth or vice versa. I Love the look despite it flaws. I hope Jack finds his way too. nice touch at the ending. It made me think of that old saying my nana says: about a life boat and when you see one grab it or something like that.
My take away: you cant fix people. only people can fix themselves otherwise your just building false safety nets that will indeed break. Better to build yourself a strong foundation and help those who come alone when needed and understand when you need to open the door, lend a hammer, and let them go repair and build their own.
or something along those lines...too early for deep thoughts
A beautiful attempt at detailing depression, though, sadly, rather one note and cumbersome to play. A for effort, but as someone with chronic depression... it just didn't resonate as I expected. A game I more appreciate than can recommend.
It's a beautiful game with a thoughtful story. It's short, I was able to get through it in a day's worth. Very spooky. The mechanics are repetitive.
Overall if you enjoyed RiME, you'll like this. If you liked this, maybe play RiME.
Really short game that lets you uncover your family problems and your owns too.
Not a masterpiece but it's still really good, recommend it.

So I just finished Sea of Solitude. I'm waiting for my Origin Access Membership to run out and saw that it was up today. So I spent three hours playing from beginning to end. The game is beautiful, amazing, and emotional on so many levels. But it's also an incredibly hard game to deal with if you've had any of the problems that the main character deals with in the game.

Blockquote So I would say that you will really love the game overall if you can get through it. Otherwise maybe give it a pass. The game is 3 hours long, maybe a half hour longer to get all the collectibles but it really isn't that kind of game. Blockquote The game consists of mostly platforming and some very light puzzle solving. But it is mostly about the story. Which I won't spoil. But it's kind of a hard journey to go on. At least I felt like it was. Your mileage may vary but you've been warned.
Sea of Solitude left me with mixed feelings. The story is pretty much personal and familial drama. It's interesting and very adult oriented. Yet the game is somewhat childish and simple. It's like it is stuck between two worlds and not really that deep in terms of gaming. The graphics are pretty good and the animations are amazing. The sounds are great, especially the voices. Music is not bad either. It's a nice game with a good story but the gaming side is kind of conventional. I like the ending a lot.
Just started it. Loving the locations and how actually scary are the encounters with the sea monster. Not loving the voice acting on the main character.
