Eliot Ness, the former leader of the legendary Untouchables, wished only to spend the rest of his days working in his diner, not dwelling too much on the cesspit of corruption his city, Santa Esperanza, had degenerated into. But things rarely go as planned

Singing the Blues

While on a film noir kick I stumbled across this game and thought it looked cool. I don't see a lot of good noir games out there. The first thing you need to know about Blues & Bullets is it's an episodic game that never got finished. The company ran out of money after the 2nd episode I reckon. So, don't expect a complete story. Knowing this though, I still wanted to give it a try, just for the noir aesthetic. The whole game is in Sin City vision, black and white with pops of red. And knowing your choices won't have lasting effects I played a little looser than I would in most adventure games. The gameplay is very much your standard, TellTale-esque, walk around and examine everything deal. Mixed in with it is some shooting gallery segments that are reminiscent of Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, not the best game to remind me off.

Now, onto the game's bread'n'butter, the story. There'll be spoilers for a 3 year old, incomplete game. I don't know if it's the fact the developers are from Spain or if they were still cutting their teeth in regards to writing stories, …

Now, onto the game's bread'n'butter, the story. There'll be spoilers for a 3 year old, incomplete game. I don't know if it's the fact the developers are from Spain or if they were still cutting their teeth in regards to writing stories, but there is a certain... off-ness to the dialogue in the game. The story is soaked in film noir with stylistic moments of inner insight, but sometimes it showed that the developers weren't quite well versed in it. "Blues & Bullets" as the name of a diner still seems odd to me.

You play as Elliot Ness, voiced by Geralt of Rivia. He's retired from policing and runs a diner that specializes in pie. Apparently no one taught him how to properly wear a tie either. His longtime nemesis, Al Capone, calls upon Ness to take a case for him.
Yeah, this game is set in an alternate history with sorta retro-future vibes, Capone lives in his blimp resort hotel, the HIndenberg.
Turns out Al's granddaughter has been kidnapped, we know by a weird supernatural cult, and he only trusts Ness to get the job done. So, we visit the underbelly of this exaggerated world and find a lot of grody stuff; human sacrifice, underground child slave trading. There's also some flashbacks moments about how Elliot may have got his Untouchables killed and a certain plot point regarding a friend's wife.
There's also little parts where you play as, presumably, Capone's granddaughter. She's been captured by some Bando Goro rejects that have unknown intentions. They seem to respect her will to survive and help others. There's also this little shit kid in the cell with her... he just sucks. enter image description here

Now, the best character in the whole game to me was Al's bodyguard and Ness' partner, Milton. He's very easy to like and has some of the best lines that get a laugh. One little endearing thing Milton and Ness has regards a secret pie recipe. They make a good duo.

All in all, That's all there really is to say about Blues and Bullets, it never got a chance to spread it's wings, and that's a shame. It may not have been great, but it was a fun noir romp. This is the kind of game that could be revived by fans, if it had enough, or even better at least release a novel that details what happens after episode 2. I have some theories of plot twists they were planning, but I reckon we'll never know.
