Finished the Scarlet Blaze route after 75 hours. Seems like the empire cannot defeat all their enemies in one game, can they? They have yet to take care of those who slither in the dark when Crimson Flower ended in Three Houses, and here, they are still parts of the kingdom to subdue. I commend them for calling one enemy faction as "those who slither in the dark" all throughout the game. That's quite a mouthful way to refer to a group of people.

Now I want to play Three Houses again. In a perfect world, I could do that and also go for another route in this game. Maybe someday.

Near the end of one route, and I like how streamlined some things are here compared to Three Houses. It somehow seems easier for Shez to increase support points with the other characters. The gameplay has also been trimmed down, and I like that - no lost items, confession box, and fishing. Even the replacement for tea parties, the expeditions, is less stressful. (I have a vague memory that tea parties put a time pressure on you for your dialogue responses.) I found Three Houses a bit overloaded because of everything it has going on so I welcome this change. Story exposition here is not well fleshed out though.

Still enjoying this game. My priorities have somehow shifted after more than 10 chapters of playthrough. I noticed that I can achieve S rank in battles in normal difficulty if I just pay attention to the requirements so I don't try too hard in maximizing training session progress anymore. Still enjoying this game. My priorities have somehow shifted after more than 10 chapters of playthrough. I noticed that I can achieve S rank in battles in normal difficulty if I just pay attention to the requirements so I don't try too hard in maximizing training session progress anymore. Now, I lean more into choosing partnerships based on support conversation availability and my interest in the dynamics between the involved characters. I hope I still have enough time to increase support points between some intriguing pairs.

Thought I was already in part 2 but apparently I just got there today. The division here seems less stark than Three Houses. Just hit chapter 9 and basically have my entire party. Wish I could have recruited Ingrid, but I'm going Scarlet Blaze and she does not seem as amenable in this as she was in Three Houses. So far, the mage classes seem incredibly lacking. Characters like Constance and Lysithea can pack a punch, but they don't seem to fare nearly as well as the melees, in particular the sword wielders mow through things ridiculously fast. Shez and Petra are unstoppable right now as swordmasters. Edelgard on her wyvern also devastates. I wish the game weren't so skimpy on resources. I don't mind having to make some decisions on what to spend currency on, but I feel very poor almost all of the time - even doing every map point that I can.

I love Edelgard's design so much in this game.

Still enjoying ordering my units around. I'm using a much wider roster of characters than I did in Three Houses because of the energized units mechanic, and I kinda like that. However, every now and then I worry that some of my units are under leveled because I try to keep the characters that do not want to fight (i.e. Linhardt and Bernadetta) away from battle as much as possible.

I lowkey wish that I went with the Golden Deer route this time around. I never really discovered what happened in that route (or any other route than the Black Eagle one), and being a member of an alliance is much appealing than that of an empire or kingdom.

So far, I think my favorite aspect of this game is giving out orders during missions. It makes me really feel like a tactical commander. Outside battle, I'm still learning the ropes with regards to training units, and I kinda miss the lecture mechanic in Three Houses.

I'm in the Scarlet Blaze path, and the war with the Church of Seiros was kinda raised abruptly here without much prior development - making it seem like it came out of nowhere. I'm excited to see how the story here would differ moving forward and also to meet the Ashen Wolves since I did not play the DLC.

I’ve been surrounded by a lot of medieval fantasy lately so I thought this might be a good companion for that. I loved Three Houses so I’m already sold just from having the same characters and setting. I chose the same house again - Black Eagles - although I am a bit of second-guessing that choice now. Perhaps it would have been refreshing to join a different house. I’m still learning the controls (and all the multiple bars on the screen for your character) and mechanics, and I don’t know if this is usual for games of this type, but there’s so much to learn here. Don’t know if I can finish this before the Persona 5 release so I just hope I’m not biting more than I can chew.

Just finished one route (Golden Wildfire) and the gameplay, just like any other warriors game, was great! Just wish the writing was better... Hopefully the other two routes will be better?

Finished all three routes and here's a general feeling: Pros:

  • Any amount of new time with the wonderful Three Houses characters is a pro.
  • Some routes (Claude's in particular) flesh out the characters in new and fun ways
  • The new protagonist is easily the best Fire Emblem has had since Awakening. Having actual dialogue and a personality is a godsend. …

  • Some routes (Claude's in particular) flesh out the characters in new and fun ways
  • The new protagonist is easily the best Fire Emblem has had since Awakening. Having actual dialogue and a personality is a godsend.
  • Combat looks nice and is snappy

Cons:

  • Like 99.9% of Musou games it gets repetitive and grindy as the experience goes
  • A lack of S supports or real meaningful conclusions to character supports hurts a little
  • Very clearly built for possible DLC. All three routes "end" with the battle still ongoing and no real closure on several aspects of the story

All in all if you like Fire Emblem Three houses cast, or just Musou games in general I'd definitely recommend it, otherwise it should be a pretty easy pass.

First game of my COVID self isolation is the demo for Fire Emblem Three Hopes!

Gameplay wise it's like all the other Warriors games BUT it is nice to get re-acquainted with the cast. I'm surprised how many I remember! Perhaps Three Houses made more of a lasting impression than I thought.

I don’t really like this kind of musou action from a mission and combat design perspective, so it’s a bit unfortunate for me that the biggest budget spinoffs of games I do love like Three Houses, Breath of the Wild, and Persona 5 have been in that style. I assume these things do pretty well commercially, but they don’t feel like something a majority of fans of those games would actually want… Anyway I don’t know if I’ll get the full game or not. It’s decent enough fun, and I like seeing the old characters again, though the new characters are not that appealing. Probably won’t shell out $60, but it doesn’t seem bad.

Cautious optimism after playing one demo route. Character models are visually cleaner compared to 3H and it performs nicely even in big battles. New protagonist is a big step up. Enjoying the extended world building and addition of a proper base camp. Gameplay…it is what it is. So far it looks like they’ve done a really nice job.

I've always been happy with how I manage to stop myself from buying books before I finish my current stack of unread books but recently, I've been slipping and purchasing new ones even though I still haven't gone through my current hoard. This behavior is seeping to other purchases as well as I'm pretty sure I'll be preordering this game even though I still haven't finished the long game I've been playing (I'm not even playing as of the moment due to an approaching due date) and I just purchased another long game to make use of an expiring voucher. Oh well, I loved Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and I feel really excited about this game so uhm I'm loosening it up a bit.
