You Will Die Here Tonight is a game I had tried once, but ultimately dropped when I realized it had a roguelite/time looping mechanic (my absolute gaming kryptonite). But being in a gaming drought, I decided to try one more time - only to realize the mechanic is more story-related than anything that affects gameplay.
And the game is cool. It’s isometric, like Signalis and Heaven Dust, with a neat shift to first person when engaging in combat. The main gameplay wears its Resident Evil inspiration proudly, having puzzles and exploration exactly as you would expect. The combat feels like an old school arcade shooter (the kind with physical gun controllers), breaking up the standard gameplay and offering a unique change of pace. The story, without too much spoilers, is unique as well. If you’ve seen the movie The Cabin in the Woods… you can get an idea.
The game is pretty short, and the puzzles are not the greatest. Many are completely illogical and take massive leaps in logic, while others are fairly standard. But overall, it’s a unique game with some surprises in store, and definitely worth a playthrough for genre enthusiasts.
I really liked this even though it was a bit easy. Loved the ending reveal.
