The Eternal Castle: Remastered is a remake of the original "Eternal Castle" from 1987, with additional game mechanics, sophisticated sound design, polished 2-bit CGA animated graphics, and modernized game design. Numerous outlets have questioned the title's "lost game" backstory as almost no corroborating accounts have been found to verify the title's development backstory.

Eternal Castle is a “remake” of a 1987 game, but really it’s not. It’s a hypothetical remake of a game the dev dreamed up as a child. Strange backstory aside, it is a highly stylized cinematic platformer, with unique pixel art and a sci-fi/horror story.

I really enjoyed it, but with a caveat. As is typical for the genre, the player movement is very clunky and leads to many frustrating moments in the gameplay. The game also doesn’t explain much of anything, including the controls, so you have to rely on external guides to parse it out.

That said, it is total eye candy and probably my favorite game visually of the year. If you are ok with the sluggish controls in cinematic platformers, definitely check it out.
